Information Regarding the Health Insurance Marketplace

After careful review, Texas Oncology has determined that it will participate in 25 insurance plans offered in Texas through the Health Insurance Marketplace created by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The plans accepted by Texas Oncology are from five insurance carriers: Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, First Care, and Humana. A complete list of the accepted plans is here:

Not all of the plans are available statewide. Patients will be directed to their eligible plan options through the www.healthcare.gov website. Texas Oncology urges patients to note the list of plans that we are accepting as they consider insurance choices.

These plans provide coverage for cancer care, access to physician networks that include specialists cancer patients may need, and other benefits that our patients and oncologists need to plan and deliver the most effective courses of treatment.

Texas Oncology has conducted training with our more than 200 financial counselors and other office staff regarding the Health Insurance Marketplace plans that we are accepting. Because patients’ individual treatment, insurance, and financial circumstances vary greatly, we will assist them on a case by case basis, consistent with our long-standing practice.

Like many healthcare providers, we are continuing to review the changing insurance marketplace and other aspects of implementing the ACA. As the complex transition in the U.S. healthcare system continues, our priority will remain on our patients, and on enabling our physicians and nurses to deliver high quality, compassionate cancer treatment.
