How Can You Help During COVID-19? Donate Blood

March 19, 2020

The American Red Cross, and other blood banks in Texas, are facing a severe shortage of blood donors amid the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) outbreak in the United States. The Red Cross says an unprecedented number of blood drives across the nation have been cancelled in recent days, diminishing its supply of blood.

Donor blood can be essential in treating cancer patients, donor recipients, trauma patients, and many others.

Donating blood is one of the easiest, and most direct ways, we can support the health and well-being of our neighbors during this time,” said Lalan Wilfong, M.D., vice president quality programs and value based care at Texas Oncology. “People shouldn’t hesitate. Blood is vital to many of the patients we serve at Texas Oncology.”

Amid the current COVID-19 outbreak, many organizations have enacted enhanced safety protocols to ensure the process is safe and easy for donors. Find additional information about blood donation opportunities near you.
