Abscess Drainage

Infected fluids collected within the body form an abscess, which generally produces fever, chills, and pain in the affected area. Some women form abscesses in their breasts.

Abscess treatment requires drainage to remove the infection. In percutaneous abscess drainage, a doctor uses imaging guidance to place a hollow needle through the skin to remove the infected fluid. The procedure provides faster recovery than open surgical drainage.
